Gzhel is the name of the oldest and most famous Russian ceramic center, which is situated at the distance of some 50 miles southeast of Moscow and known since XIVth century as a home of potter’s production. Gzhel is also the name of a village in this area and this name is applied to the beautiful artistic porcelain and majolica ware made there.
